University evacuates two hostels after violent clashes erupt at KIIT Bhubaneswar

KIIT Bhubaneswar said on Sunday, it had evacuated two hostels after clashes broke out between two groups over the alleged harassment of a final-year female law student by a 2nd year engineering student on Friday.

CCTV footage shows students breaking the campus property on Saturday, attacking each other with sticks and thrashing some entering a lift, NDTV reported.

News reported that mostly injured students are from Bihar and the situation is not all good there on the campus. A huge stone ragging held between Engineering and law students and due to this University order to vacate two hostels on immediate effect.

A student from Bihar said to Media, instead of providing safety to students, the university asked students to vacate hostel and students somehow manage and book train tickets and return to their hometown.

University said in a press release, “A few students received minor injuries. They’ve been discharged after first-aid. Rumors of fatality are false. KIIT has a policy of zero tolerance towards such unruly actions and necessary steps have been taken,” it added.
