REDOC SPI is a National Network for Doctoral Departments in Engineering Sciences. The Doctoral Departments, together with the Network, strengthens their impact in promoting doctorates to students and businesses, both in France and abroad. The Network brings together 25 Doctoral Departments throughout France and draws its strength from the 7.600 Ph.D. students and the 110 Research Units associated.
It is supported by the Association Franchise de Mécanique (French Mechanical Engineering Association), the Federation des Industries Mécaniques (Federation of Mechanical Industries) and the Club EEA (Club for Instructors and Researchers in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, and Automatic Control Engineering).
Recently, The IIT-Kharagpur (Kgp) and REDOC SPI, a French network of doctoral schools, have teamed up to “strengthen institutional collaboration in doctoral education and research.
Through the initiative, the collaboration will be promoted between IIT-Kgp and doctoral schools (or equivalent structures) of REDOC SPI, through exchange programmes, joint academic and research doctoral programmes and joint supervision of doctoral students.
A MoU to this effect was signed on October 3, 2018, in Kolkata during ‘Choose France Tour’ event. As per the initiative, IIT KGP and REDOC SPI will launch dedicated sections on their websites to share and promote information, opportunities related to doctoral studies in electrical and mechanical engineering. Funding opportunities could be sought from Indo-French ‘Raman Charpak Fellowship’ programme of IFCPAR/CEFIPRA among others.
Professor Anandaroop Bhattacharya, associate dean, international relations, and coordinator of the collaborative initiative at IIT-Kgp said, “This is an exciting partnership enabling engagement of our institute with 27 doctoral schools throughout France. IIT-Kgp and REDOC SPI may formulate joint academic and research activities such as short courses, seminars, workshops or conferences based on their mutual interests and available expertise. They may also share and carry out joint research in technology for distance and computer-based learning.”
He added, “The relationship also aims at enhancing the technological, social and cultural relations of both countries/states/regions. It includes some specifically identified areas of cooperation, which may be updated from time to time.”
IIT-Kgp and REDOC SPI will launch dedicated sections on their websites to share and promote information and opportunities related to doctoral studies in electrical and mechanical engineering. The outgoing mobility of Ph.D. students will be encouraged on a reciprocal basis.
Prof Hubert Romat, Director of International Relations, will be the coordinator of REDOC SPI. REDOC SPI is the only Network of French Doctoral Schools in the fields of mechanical and electrical engineering among others.
Professor Hubert Romat, director for international relations, REDOC-SPI said,’“We are looking forward to a long and productive partnership with the talented faculty members of this iconic institute.”
Missions and organization of the REDOC SPI network
• Strengthen the influence and international attractiveness of the SPI doctorate in France, for French and foreign students, at the undergraduate or master level.
• Helping doctoral students in SPI to enhance their doctoral training and diploma with potential employers in the socio-economic sectors concerned
• Facilitate the meeting of the network’s doctoral communities around topics of common interest
• Assist adherent doctoral schools to fulfill their missions of formation, information, openness to the economic world, professional follow-up, international development
