“NIT-Calicut” is a technical institution of national importance set up by an Act of parliament to develop high quality technical education and personnel with a sound footing on basic engineering principles, technical and managerial skills, innovative research capabilities, and exemplary professional conduct to lead and to use technology for the progress of mankind, adapting themselves to changing technological environment with the highest ethical values as the inner strength.
NIT-C’s current batch of students recorded remarkable placements in the session 2017-18. NIT-C invited a number of esteemed organizations to visit NIT Calicut campus to recruit their fresh talents.
Despite the fact that it has lost its previous rank in National Institutional Ranking Framework by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, it has secured remarkable placements. This year NIT-C has got 50th rank which is less from the previous year’s 44th rank in the engineering colleges’ category at the national level. The placement track record is building a good reputation for the institute.
Over 75% of students have been hired by 134 companies and the average compensation has gone up to 8.5 lakh from 7.5 lakh from the recruitment last year.
As per T.K. Suresh Babu, Head of the NIT-C Training and Placement Cell said, “All the 108 students of the B.Tech. Computer Science course has been enlisted and the average annual salary offered is 12.5 lakh. Three students have been offered the highest salary of 40 lakh each by Adobe Systems Incorporated and three others offered 33 lakh each by Goldman Sachs Group.”
The season also saw recruiters scouting for more B.Tech. Students from the core engineering subjects such as Computer Science, Electronics, and Communication, Electrical and Electronics, Mechanical and Civil. There were takers for Chemical and Production engineering disciplines as well.
Dr. Babu said the number of companies that visited the campus had increased from 54 to 134 in the last 12 years. Likewise, the salary offered grew from 3.5 lakh during 2006-07 to 8.5 lakh in 2017-18.
Credit goes to a number of various clubs and societies like Literary and Debating Club, SPIC MACAY, Adventure Club, Audio Visual Club who are giving their best to develop students’ soft skills.
NITC offers academic programmes leading to B.Tech. (Biotechnology, Civil, Chemical, Computer Science, Engineering Physics, Electronics and Communication, Electrical and Electronics, Mechanical, Production), 5-year B.Arch., M.Tech. (In 30 specializations), M Plan, MBA, MCA, M.Sc. (Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics), and Ph.D. degrees in the appropriate disciplines.
