Prof. Anju Seth become 1st woman director Of IIM-Calcutta

IIM-Calcutta among the oldest IIM’s of the country, in its 5 decades of establishment this is the first time, the institute appointed woman Director Prof. Anju Seth. She will be taking over the reins from Saibal Chattopadhyay.

Seth is an alumnus of IIM-Calcutta of 1978 batch and has a doctorate from the University of Michigan(1988). Later, she went on to join Virginia Tech in 2008 and headed its Department of Management from 2008 to 2013.

Seth is the second female to ever head of an IIM and the third foreign-based academician to hold the post after Ashish Nanda’s appointment to IIM-Ahmedabad and Sushil Vachani to IIM-Bangalore in 2013 and 2014, respectively. However, both Vachani and Nanda stepped down before completing their term.

“It is an honor and privilege to be appointed to serve IIM-Calcutta in the position of director. I look forward to working with faculty, staff, students, governors, and all other stakeholders to build on the institute’s strong foundations and accomplish new heights of eminence,” Seth said.

She has also been involved as the member of AICTE committee for developing policy guidelines and benchmarks for grading AICTE approved PGDM institutions across the country.
