One of the six new Indian Institutes of Technology, The Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad founded in 2008. It is a public engineering and research institution which is located in Sangareddy district of Telangana. IITH is known for its academic strength, research, publications and proximity to IT and industrial hubs.

In 2018, IIT Hyderabad was ranked 9th, among engineering institutes in India by the National Institutional Ranking Framework. IIT Hyderabad is officially recognized as an Institute of National Importance by the government of India.

Institute of National Importance IITH is launching three All-Course in MTech Programme in Biomedical, Chemical and Material Science Engineering in coming August 2018. While the primary goal behind starting these courses is to provide a strong coursework to meet the industrial requirements, it also offers a flexible structure to cater to the students with a research bent of mind.

The all course M.Tech program at IITH is a credit-based program and can be completed in 3 or 4 semesters. Since GATE qualification is not a requirement for admission to all course M.Tech program, the successful applicants will not be entitled to any fellowship. The program is non-subsidized cost sharing, wherein student will pay the tuition fee on per credit basis.

The institute introduced the concept of All-Course MTech Programme in 2017 when it started on a limited basis in three specializations — Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. After seeing the strong response from students last year, the institute decided to add three more specializations this year.

The minimum eligibility criteria for admission into the program is B.E/B.Tech in appropriate branch of engineering from a recognized university/institution with minimum first class. However, each department will have its own shortlisting criteria, which can be higher than the minimum eligibility criteria. The program is non-subsidized cost sharing, wherein student will pay the tuition fee on per credit basis.

For the academic year 2017-18, the fee is 25,000 per credit + administrative fee of 1,00,000/- per year. Depending on the branch and specialization, the credits may vary between 36-40. The student can choose to complete the credit requirements in three to four semesters. The three-semester schedule also includes summer semester.

Prof UB Desai, Director, IIT Hyderabad told about the importance of All-Course MTech Programme, “the Indian industries need highly skilled workforce equipped with latest developments and practices, and this we believe can be achieved through an exhaustive set of courses.”

He added, “In addition to the existing specializations in Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering, IIT Hyderabad is going to expand all course MTech programme to Biomedical, Chemical, and Material Science Engineering, as well, from August 2018”

As per Prof Desai, the All-Course Programme will not be a shortcut to an IIT degree. “The All-Course programme students, besides taking the normal course load will have to take extra courses in place of the research work done in the second year of the regular two-year MTech Programme.”

“The course rigor will be the same and will have the depth of IIT courses and breadth for skill and practice,” he added.

The All-Course MTech Programme students will not be entitled to any Fellowship as GATE qualification will not be mandatory. On successful completion of the programme, the student will receive an MTech degree. IIT Hyderabad is accepting online applications till July 21, 2018. Candidates will be selected through initial shortlisting followed by written test and/or interview. Programme details and online application is available at:
