Post-graduate Diploma in Business Analytics (PGDBA) is a 2-year full-time post graduation course offered by IIM Calcutta, IIT Kharagpur, and ISI Kolkata. The three premier institutes of the country that have initiated a postgraduate course in business analytics in order to develop a distinctive curriculum that is highly in demand of this technological era and also help students get better campus placement.
The two-year programme ends with placement session to fill in the Placement vacancies across in various organizations.
The first batch of 2015-17 of Post Graduate Diploma in Business Analytics at the Indian Institute of Management – Calcutta (IIMC) saw many organizations participate from diverse industries in the final placement. It was quite an achievement for the students as well as for the institute since the graduates received a total of 52 offers for 51 students.
In spite of being the first batch, out of 52 offers, 49 were domestic placements whereas 3 were international offers. The process of placement hiring received an overwhelming response from 38 organizations inclusive of Fortune 500 companies such as American Express, UHG, JPMC, Walmart, etc. It is evident that irrespective of the courses offered by IIM-C, established firms have confidence in the products of the institute.
In the field of financial service, companies such as American Express and MasterCard required Payments Analytics whereas Dunia Finance, Edelweiss Financial Services and Societe Generale for financial analytics roles. In the consulting arena, employers like PwC US Advisory, Deloitte, Alvarez & Marsal and EXL Services had vacancies for the post of Analytics. Walmart Labs recruited personnel in Retail Analytics, UHG appointed HealthCare Analytics and Ittiam and Rediff required staff with analytics and data science background from Digital Media industry. Other organization like Mitsubishi Fuso, Mahindra and Mahindra, Larsen and Toubro and Cummins needed to fill the Supply Chain, Business Intelligence and IoT arena.
International requirements were from the organization such as Mitsubishi Fuso in Tokyo, Dunia Finance from Dubai, Microsoft, JPMC, Directi participated in the inaugural placement of the first batch.
The opening batch of PG diploma in business analytics were offered Rs. 17.14 lakh as an average annual remuneration for domestic appointments and the average yearly remuneration for a foreign position were offered Rs. 18.04 lakh. The maximum package received by the inaugural batch was Rs.33.67 lakh. This is termed as an impressive pay package for the first batch of business analytics course.
The dean of studies of ISI Kolkata, Ms. Amita Pal, gave a statement, “It is indeed heartening to note that this new and unique programme, which is driven by the expertise of three premier institution of this country, is already finding its niche in the arena of Business Analytics. The vision behind this novel initiative stands endorsed through its quick acceptance by the major players in the field.”
