Dy Chief Minister of Bihar Shri. Sushil Kumar Modi, has laid the foundation stone for the Incubation Centre at IIT Patna.

Honourable Dy Chief Minister Shri Sushil Kumar Modi ji has laid the foundation stone for the permanent facility of Incubation Centre IIT Patna at IIT Patna campus at Bihta on Saturday 24th Nov 2018 at 4 pm.

Shri Nand Kishore Yadav, Minister of Roads, Govt of Bihar was the guest of honour.

The event had the esteemed presence of Shri Gyanendra Singh MLA and Shri Neeraj Kumar MLC along with Prof Pushpak Bhattacharryya, Director IIT Patna, Shri Rahul Singh IAS, Secretary, Department of Finance and Department of IT, Shri Jitendra Srivastava IAS, Chairman of BRPNNL, Shri Umesh Kumar, MD of BRPNNL, Prof Mayank Tiwari, member of BoG IIT Patna, Prof Pramod Kumar Tiwari, Professor in charge of Incubation Centre IIT Patna and Shri SS Kalsi, MD of Kalsi Buildcon Pvt Ltd.

“Students of IIT is the best talent in the country and should take risks to venture into startups solving local problems with a global perspective” Dy CM said addressing the audience that included Deans, HoDs, members of the management committee of IC, the construction committee members of IC, faculty, staff and students of IIT Patna, Incubatees and staff of Incubation Centre.

Prof Pushpak Bhattacharyya has described the initiatives taken by IIT Patna to promote research and innovation.

Welcoming the guests, Prof Pramod Tiwari has explained the beginning and progress of Incubation Centre :

“IIT Patna keenly promotes entrepreneurship and innovation among its fraternity and has taken concrete steps to do this. The journey of Incubation Centre began in 2014 when IIT Patnaestablish ad to establish a centre for promoting entrepreneurship by technology commercialization focused on electronics and medical electronics devices with the collaboration of Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India and Government of Bihar with a project outlay of INR 47.10 Cr.

As on today, Incubation Centre IIT Patna, also known as IC supports 14 companies under its regular Incubation program and three companies under its short term pre-incubation program. These companies have been selected from more than 200 applicants, through a rigorous two stage evaluation process.

Incubation Centre IIT Patna, also known as IC, maintains a pan India focus and can support entrepreneurs from any part of the country and welcomes students, faculty and other innovators to come and work with us. While maintaining a national focus, IC is working very closely with Govt of Bihar to promote the startup ecosystem in Bihar. IC is a partner in the implementation in Bihar Startup Policy and has six companies incubated under the policy with financial assistance of 10 Lakhs from Govt of Bihar.

IC incubated companies are from various domains. Some of the companies incubated at IC works on medical electronics devices. Bionic Hope is developing an active upper limb prosthesis while Electro curietech is working on a device for early detection of eye problems. Atlamedico techsolutions is working on integrated and affordable critical care systems.

Some companies are working on automation, IoT and robotics. 4Mirrortech Innovatives is working on smart washroom and Smart-bin applications In line with the “Swach Bharat Mission” and Techprolabz is into robotics education. There are teams working in batteries, biofuels and renewable energy as well.

The regular Incubation program at the IC IITP support start-ups for idea validation, product development, building and testing prototypes and early stage scaling of innovations. IC enables the start-ups with fully furnished office space and meeting facilities, state of the art laboratories for electronic systems design, Prototyping, testing and product prototyping.

Guidance by mentors from Industry, IITP faculty and IC management on business, technology and other aspects are also provided. Incubated companies can also apply for seed funding of up to 10 lakhs, thanks to the provision of funds by Govt of Bihar for this purpose. The operations of the centre is managed by a dedicated 11 member staff team.

In addition to the Incubation support, Incubation Centre is actively engaged in promoting a culture of entrepreneurship in Bihar. Incubation centre has carried out hackathons, workshops on technology commercialization, startup conclaves etc to promote entrepreneurship among students and young entrepreneurs. Incubation on centre offers internship to students and is launching an annual 15 days course on medtech innovation for aspiring entrepreneurs and academia.

At present, IC operates from the space provided by IIT Patna for the purpose until its permanent facility is being built. We are gathered here today for the groundbreaking and foundation stone laying ceremony of the permanent facility. The 30,000 sq ft facility is being constructed at a cost of around INR 15 Cr with the funds provided by Govt of Bihar.

On behalf of Incubation Centre IIT Patna, the construction of the facility will be managed by Bihar Rajya Pull Nirman Nigam Ltd. The project is awarded to Kalsi Buildcon Pvt Ltd to complete the construction on turnkey basis. The project will be completed in 18 months.

The building, when completed, will have state-of-art fully furnished office space for incubated companies as well as for Incubation Centre staff, conference rooms with advanced conferencing facility, reading room, a few guest rooms, cafeteria and recreation facilities.

The building will also house advanced technology labs – Cleanroom lab for micro nano fabrication, labs for ESDM design and prototyping, PCB prototyping and manufacturing, testing and calibration, mechanical packaging and product prototyping. The architecture and interiors will be unique, pleasing to the eye and will enhance productivity and innovation.
