CAT November 2018 exam schedule, registration details released

CAT November 2018 (Common Admission Test) is a national level management entrance exam for the academic session 2019-20. The Indian Institutes of Management will conduct computer-based Common Admission Test 2018 (CAT 2018) on Sunday, 25th November 2018 in two sessions. Registration for CAT 2018 will open on August 8, 2018, and will close on September 19, 2018.

Conducted by IIMs, CAT 2018 is a pre-requisite for admission to various management programmes of IIMs(Indian Institutes of Management -Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bangalore, Bodh Gaya, Calcutta, Indore, Jammu, Kashipur, Kozhikode, Lucknow, Nagpur, Raipur, Ranchi, Rohtak, Sambalpur, Shillong, Sirmaur, Tiruchirappalli, Udaipur, Visakhapatnam) and other top B-Schools.

Every year, one of the IIMs organize CAT for admission to MBA and PGDM programs by leading business schools in India. IIM Calcutta is expected to be the convener for CAT 2018. IIM Calcutta is speculated to convene CAT almost after a gap of 6 years. IIM Kozhikode and IIM Bangalore are other two major contenders for organizing CAT 2018. TCS – Tata Consultancy Services will be the test-taking agency for CAT.

Highlights of CAT 2018:

CAT Exam is conducted in online mode (computer-based test).

The paper for CAT comprises 3 sections – VARC, DILR, and Quant(Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension, Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning and Quantitative Ability).

A total of 100 questions are to be attempted in 180 minutes, 60 minutes for answering questions in each section.
Nearly 70% questions in CAT are likely to carry negative marking of 1/3 marks.

CAT November 2018 Registration Fee for General candidates is INR 1900 and INR 1000 for reserved category candidates.

There is no additional application fee to apply for the 50 management programs offered by the leading 20 IIMs (Indian Institute of Management) in the country.

Besides IIMs, other top MBA colleges in the country such as FMS Delhi, SPJIMR Mumbai, MDI Gurgaon, IMI New Delhi, JBIMS Mumbai, IMT Ghaziabad, etc. also accept CAT scores for admitting candidates into the various management programs offered by them.

CAT 2018 ELIGIBILITY:

•The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s Degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA [45% in case of the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Persons With Disability (PWD) categories] awarded by any University or educational institution.

•Candidates appearing for the final year of Bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed degree requirements and are awaiting results can also apply.

REGISTRATION FOR CAT:

•The registration window opens on 8th August 2018 and will close at 5:00 p.m. on 19th September 2018.

•At the time of registration, the candidates have to select any four Test Cities as per their preference from the drop-down menu.

•The candidates can download the admit cards from 24th October 2018 till 25th November 2018.

•TEST CENTRES CAT will be conducted in centers spread across around 147 test cities.

ADMISSION PROCESS:

•Please note that each IIM is independent to mandate their own eligibility criteria (including academic cut-offs and relative weights) and follow different selection processes. Performance in CAT 2018 examination is an important component for consideration in the selection process. IIMs may also use previous academic performance of the candidates, relevant work experience, and other similar inputs in short-listing of candidates at various stages of the selection process. For more information, candidates must refer to the respective websites of the IIM.

•The CAT November 2018 Scores are allowed to be used by the listed Non-IIM member institutions. List of Non-IIM member institutions that have registered to avail the CAT 2018 scores is provided at the official website. Please note that IIMs have no role in the selection process of Non-IIM institutions.
