AirOK Technologies, an IIT-Madras incubated start-up – Launched India’s First Indigenously Developed Smart Air Purifier ‘Vistar’

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-Madras)-incubated startup AirOK launched India’s first indigenously developed Smart Air purifier ‘Vistar’ at Chennai on Saturday.

While everyone is aware of dust, pollen, pet dander, and particulates, the pollutants that can cause us the most harm are microscopic like mold, viruses, bacteria, and gaseous chemicals .we spend 90% of the time in indoor and Indoor is 5 times more polluted than outdoor air.

AirOK presents you the air purifiers like never before. After 3 years of R&D with an innovational approach to attain clean air with a conventional design, they have designed VISTAR450, a uni filter Air purifier with dual stratified filter technology. AirOk Air Purifier is a monumental leap in Air purification technology.

How Air OK Vistar works –

The EPA stated indoor air is up to 5X more polluted than outdoor air. Pollutants are trapped inside where they are concentrated and multiply to harmful levels. Air enters through 45° inclined slits, 360° Air inlets filters the air pollutants from every direction. Air moves into the purifier in such a way that it has a high mass transfer zone
AirOk smart air purifier can be placed at any corner of the room, it senses the pollution level and automates the fan speed based on the concentrations of pollutants, and efficiencies can be achieved equally throughout the room whether the purifier is against the wall or in the center of the room.

Powered by an EGAPA (Efficient Granular Adsorbent Particulate Arrester), Vistar can filter a variety of pollutants such as particulate matter, microbes, fungus and gaseous substances. In special features, VISTAR has got Wi-Fi and touch interface and the functioning of the purifier, in terms of the quantum of pollutants in the air, can be ascertained in real-time.

The company AirOk will target institutional segment which includes hospitals, hospitality, commercial real estate, food processing and manufacturing in the initial phase keeping the price low as 20,000. The Startup can manufacture up to 30 units per day currently and can increase the production capacity to 1,000 without any major additional investment.

Prof. Ashok Jhunjhunwala, Faculty in charge, IIT-Madras Research Park, launched the product at a function held here.

Addressing the launch function, Prof. Ashok Jhunjhunwala said, “Ever increasing air-pollution in Indian cities is having a severe impact on the health of its people. We need a war on pollution-causing elements. But in the meanwhile, we need to minimize its impact, by cleaning the air, wherever it is possible. AirOK has come up with something which will make great an immediate difference to our lives.”

Delivering a video message on the occasion, Prof. Bhaskar Ramamurthi, Director, IIT-Madras, said, “I’ve seen this product evolve over the months in the Institute workshop. The product is as good as any other product that’s made anywhere in the world. It looks fabulous and I hope it gets very good acceptance in the market.”

SAR Group, makers of water purifiers under Livpure brand has invested about 12 crores in AirOK late last year and will become the distribution partner for an air-purifier product.

Mr. Deekshith Vara Prasad, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of AirOK, said, “Breathing air is a basic necessity and I do not think that we need to compromise on that. Our rule is very simple, it is to make air clean. We, at AirOk, do not count time in seconds but on the number of clean breaths we provided.”
